A major issue regarding cyclists on the road is the potential threat they pose to pedestrians. In a scholarly article focused on New York and California, it has been proven that bike related injuries have declined, despite the growing popularity of biking in America. The lack of injuries have been traced back to two main factors: children have less exposure to bikes and there have been cycling infrastructure improvements.

In order to conduct this study, researchers focused on the injury rate for outpatients in two of the most populated states in the nation. What was discovered was that from 2004-2011, there were 7904 outpatient injuries in New York and 6177 in California. Compared to car injuries, these statistics are considerably small.

The decline in bike accidents are also a result from better education for bikers and stricter enforcement of traffic laws.

This study proves that by looking a concrete evidence, it is easy to come to the conclusion that bikes are really not as much of a threat to pedestrians as our world and the media makes them out to be.
